People: Women and Senate Art

Several prominent and talented women artists contributed to the wide range of styles and media represented in the U.S. Senate Collection.  The careers of artists, such as Bessie Potter Vonnoh and Hattie Elizabeth Burdette, benefitted from the prestige of earning commissions placed in the U.S. Capitol.

In addition to painting and sculpture created by women artists, many works in the Senate Collection honor women who played important roles in American history.
